A State of Mind

p5190705.JPGEveryone disagrees with me but truly I feel I ride a Single speed better. Better, not faster but better. Why? Well I believe that mentally its less fatiguing because there isn’t any thinking or debating required for gear choice. Your brain is like anything else, its limited to the amount of information it can store without deleting somreallyething else. I just haven’t found the room in there for shifting efficiently therefore I feel that I ride the single speed better. That being said let me tell you about last Sundays race at “The Wilds” in the OMBC series. I had chosen the Superfly along with its plethora of gears because Ohio usually doesn’t have the longer climbs to separate the field.

2008-wilds-ombc-race-035.jpgBob Myers (Area 106 Rep) came to show his support which is very cool and much appreciated, Thanks Bob! The course was extremely muddy, as you can see from the pics, so when the start went off I was concerned with getting chain-suck. Having little thought process left to make an intelligent choice I left the bike in the big ring and powered onward. Was this a wise choice? probably not but again I have a thousand things going on in my head and none of them were related to shifting or cadence. Never the less I did well and ran the big ring until the final 200 yards which I also can’t explain… why 200 yards? This I’ll never understand so it’s got to be a simple single speed State of Mind that I’m unable to break.sluggin-away.jpg

I did well for the day & The Trek of Pittsburgh, Heart Center, Classic Ink, Deans, Boone Ti, Bontrager equipped Fisher Superfly 29er performed flawlessly placing me on the top podium  spot for the Vet class & 3rd overall. Here’s the full story

A big thanks to Bontrager & Fisher for such fantastic equipment.
