License to Ride

license

I set out his morning on The Ferrous SS to do some thankless errands. First the paying of overdue excise tax then the renewal of my driver’s license. I happened to be rocking the team kit, so the upside was that when it came time for the photo I wound up with what looks like a license to be an Evil Army Officer from a Sci-Fi movie. Sick. The Ferrous was happy to get some love. Ever since the new Superfly-puppy showed up, the old dog has been sleeping in the corner gathering dust…like sleeping dogs do.

Some other, perhaps more exciting  stuff has been going on as well…

Went up to Canadia to hang with Freye-Guy and get an ass whuppin’ at The Canada Cup race in Tremblant. So surprised I got abso-freakin-lutely killed up there. I was always told that racing a Single Speed at a UCI Cat 1 event was a really, really good idea. The highlight of my race was actually stopping to give Emily Batty some advice on how to remedy her chainsuck issues.

This from her blog:

“A man who was racing actually stopped to help me figure out what was going on. I never got his number plate but if reads this… thank you again :)”

As a result the Canadian Consulate contacted me Monday to inform me that I have been bestowed the title of “Honorary 13th Most Famous Canadian“. I bumped Bryan Adams out of his spot and now occupy the coveted space just below Peter North. Maybe we should just leave that one alone.

vermont1

The day after my embarrassing beatdown we headed down to West Fairlee Vermont for the race at Tom Masterson’s Coyote Hill Center which is always a huge highlight of the season. When you think about Vermont, this is what comes to mind. Red barns, green mountains, fields full of dandelions and cows. It is truly beautiful. My legs were dragging from the Tremblant trauma, but I managed to pull off an 8th place finish in the largest Pro field I’ve seen at one of our regional series races (not like the 80 dude peloton of Saturday). By the end of the race I could feel my Mojo coming back. Hopefully I can keep that Woikin’ for this Sunday’s Singlespeed-A-Polooza out in New York.
