The itsy bitsy spider

Seems like you never run out of ways to hop up your ride. Case in point. The custom 2×9 spider creeated for the Subaru-Gary Fisher mountain bike team. This genesis for this whiz bangery started with Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski and his Superfly carbon hardtail 29er.

JHK typically runs a 2×9 setup on his Superfly. However, he was looking for a setup that allowed him a narrower Q-factor (width between crank arms) and allow for a small enough ring up front when running the 2×9 setup.

So Gary Fisher custom fabricated a few one-off’s of this spider for JHK and the Subaru-Gary Fisher team. And since we were going through all the effort we decided to paint them white and style out their rides.

The spiders were then sent to JHK in Europe for the upcoming World Cup races and Sam Schultz tested out his custom Superfly spider in Monterey, CA, at Sea Otter.

Hey, this is great stuff ! I am looking also for something like that in Europe.

What front shifter are you guys using? Do you just set the stops on the front derailluer for two gears?

More setup details please ;)

The Subaru-Gary Fisher team is using x.o front shifter with a SRAM X9 front der. with the stops set at the 2 rings.
