mud racing

It can be a destructive thrill to race in mud. Such was the first round of the East coast cup in Ducktown TN. It was wet mud which as we all know is a lot better than sticky mud and there seemed to be enough water either flowing on the trail or coming out of the sky to keep things marginally functional. I haven’t checked over the bike just yet but I’m sure it’s got some wear. Getting that muddy is a thrill that only racers know. I kept aiming for the puddles hoping to wash off the middle ring chainsuck to no avail. I had to keep it in the big ring for the entire last lap. Thomas Turner and I engaged in a three mile downhill singletrack sprint to the finish. I am convinced that I can ride the downhills on my superfly about as fast as a duely. I eked out a 7 sec. gap by the bottom and headed for the 1/2 mile pavement TT to the finish determined not to look back. I pushed through pain until I could taste lactic acid in my mouth but my legs still started to give. With the finish in sight I could not longer take it, I looked back.  No one in sight!  I coasted across too tired to sprint. Thomas and I have been having some great battles this year. This coming weekend we’re joining up for the Dirt Sweat and Gears duo category. I hope it pays the bills.
