Wednesday is my weekend

Working at a bike shop means I have a crazy work schedule. I get Sundays and Wednesdays off. Hard to get used to, but is actually quite nice. I get two ‘Friday nights’ (Tuesday and Saturday). It also makes for a nice riding schedule I can do two huge rides in a week and have time to recover in between.

That being said, this past Tuesday was a nice reminder that Spring is on the way. Mark and I got up early for a road ride on our Karate Monkey’s. Training together usually benefits me more than Mark, so we started the ride together then Mark headed for the hills while I headed for the flats and we went our separate ways planning to meet back at the house. However, we actually ran into each other later and were able to time-trial back home in order to get to work on time.

Tuesday night Casey, Chad, and Burt came over to build Casey’s new bike a Santa Cruz Blur XC - still a fan of 26″. That lead to some midnight urban assault around Geneva. Wednesday started with a hike around some land in Naples where we are planning on building some new single track. Since the trails were nothing less than swampy we headed out of Naples up Strong Hill to check out the new wind turbines they are building. We were met near the top with a seasonal road still covered in about 8″ of slush, snow, and ice. With my 38c and 80psi tires that meant I was hiking. The towers were amazing, they’re gigantic and the view was just as amazing. But the downhill was eye-watering fast on beautiful, swooping dirt roads making the hike a bike worth it.
