stop, hamma time

mtmorris.jpgweve been getting drilled with rain the past two weeks. chamois time has been about anything but time on the mtb. we can swing the gravel but even that left up headset deep in water last week. no worries though. the tech skills have been honed. with a major detour we bushwacked a route with some time to spare to the subaru wors cup. jesse and i saddled up for a quick lap of the course before heading to staging. this is a course to look forward to. lots of climbing, great singletrack, and a couple of little rock gardens thrown in to spice things up. by far my favorite course of the entire wors season. it seems weve weaseled our way into a front row starting position and after a mile or two the group was set. tj took the reins initially before jesse went to the front to make sure the gap was established.  we lost mikey going at the end of lap one and shortly after jesse threw in a few very painful hill climbs to get a small gap on tj. i was content to follow, but soon enough i figured id give the old man a little break. i took over on the uphil singletrack and rode a clean lap to double the gap to third. and so it went, switching pulls every three quarters of a lap. the gap grew. the ski hill climb was a little easier knowing that meghan and amanda were staked out on top with a fresh cold bottle. by the last lap the legs were burning. it happens every time. i think im fine and then, all of a sudden, jesse is five seconds up. i made a half assed chase with a mile or two to go but rolled in thirteen seconds down. another 29er crew 1-2 punch.
