pump up the jam.

it felt like the ruins of a terrible war. blown up walls. shrapnel littering the ground. animal carcasses strewn about. an incredibly urban setting to start of the two thousand eight season at the sylvan island stampede in rock island, il. a warmup of a lap or two of the course got the ride flowing. its been a while since we rode this singletrack stuff. from the gun it came 29crew.jpgback quick. jesse and i got snaked by a rider into the singletrack but jesse made quick work of him a mile later. i was stuck waiting for the moment to attack and latch back onto the pain train. three minutes later and the 29er crew caboose was rollin. i followed the lines of jesse as we continually put more and more time into the chasers. on the fourth lap i decided to give the bro a break and took over the pacing. we stopped getting time gaps after it outgrew the four minute mark. with a lap and a half to go jesse attacked and my lack of skills started to show. he quickly opened up at fifteen second gap just as the pin on my front brake decides to leave me. i chased hard but in the end the gap was thirty seconds. a good opener and a good sign of fitness. a few weeks and we’ll be back at it again.
