TMBRA Round 4

Warda, TX.

Had fun at Warda. Not pre-riding was my saving grace in a very twisty, punchy, repetitive course. The first lap and the first half of the second lap was pretty much a surprise for me. Local Mountain bike fast man, Raymond Hall (Regional Trek/VW) took off like he stole something, and Billy Kurtz (Austin Bikes) followed him. I just followed wheels for the first lap managing to safetly navigate around the first lap of the course. Eventually Matt Googe (Got 3rd at the NOVA Semi-pro short track a week prior) got around and looked as though he would catch them, but once I got around the guys I was riding behind, I quickly caught Matt and We trucked onward. At the start of Lap 3 Me and Matt Davis poured some heat onto Googe and unhitched him. Then, the next two laps I continued to just sit on front and motor. I was hoping at least that the time gap would come down from the boys up front, because I felt like I was riding with haste. It would go up about 10-20 seconds every lap though and seemed to be a futile effort on my behalf as Kurtz and Hall worked together up front and I was pretty much on my own. On the 4th lap I poured it on a little more and got rid of Matt Davis (not an easy task) and then just continued my steady pace. In hind sight I could have been more explosive out of the course, but I wasn’t feeling anything but diesel mode yesterday. Had I been more aggressive, I might have closed that gap a little more.

But I can’t really complain too much as It was my first PSE podium. Although as Raymond Hall indicated the whole race will have an ‘*’ by it as Brian Fawley (racing in Fontana representing Tejas) wasn’t in town, but I suspect he will be at Riemer’s so then it will be time to strut our stuff.  I know my BIG wheels will pay off in the 3-4 foot rock ledges in central Texas.  I can’t think of one drawback to my bike because even in the sharp twisting stuff it rails corners like you are glued to the ground!
