Respect
Over Memorial Day, Tracy and I went to Washington, DC. I grew outside of DC and I ended up with several days off. Tracy and I visited the Mall and went to all the War Memorials. It was neat seeing the new World War II memorial. It was great seeing all the different nationalities visiting the memorial. But what burned me up, was that on every corner of the fountain, there was a sign stating to respect the memorial and please don’t wade in the fountain.
So riddle me this, why would parents allow their kids to wade in the fountain? (Not too mention the parents wading in the fountain). I know if I were still a kid and tried to wade in the fountain, I would have gotten a ‘class ring’ upside my head from my Dad!!
If you get a chance to visit DC, be sure to visit the War Memorials. They are awe inspiring. Nothing will make a stronger impact on you than seeing a Vietnam War vet touching names of friends he lost during the war. It makes you appreciate what our soldiers really mean to our Country and it wouldn’t be what it is today without their sacrifices.
Injuries
My back is better. I’m riding and got on my mountain bike today with a no pain. Travis was at the Park with the Trek Demo group so it was good excuse to get on the Paragon after leading one of the shop rides.
But the bummer is that it’s taken me two weeks to feel like I’m getting better. It used to be a week before I was back to normal. Either I really hurt my back bigtime or I’m getting older. I’m thinking it’s the getting older part and it sucks - I’ve already lost my hair…
Goals
I wrote a post earlier about setting and meeting goals. Well, so far I’ve met one of those goals. I set the Track Record at Lowes for the Cat 3 group on the first TT of the year. But it’s the real life goals that are hard.
I’ve set a new goal of learning web design. Mostly because I want to figure out how to do it. And maybe figure out a way to make some extra cash.
RAAM
I’m heading to California this weekend to participate in the Corporate RAAM challenge. We’re riding from San Diego, CA to Flagstaff, AZ (500 miles). My team wants to complete the challenge in under 24 hours. It’ll be my 2nd time racing after volunteering the first year. Hopefully we can do it.
I spoke to the team organizer this evening and told him not to get as stressed as much as he did last year. Too late, he said he was already past that. I felt bad for Eric. People take for granted how hard others work so we can have fun. Don’t forget to thank the race volunteers and organizers when you are at your next race.
CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S JUNE!!!!
