Summer Days

Seems I’ve been a bit slacking on the posting. What can I say, It’s been a busy summer. July was a crazy month, Hit up Windham and then on to Mount Snow for the Week. Since then I’ve taken a little bit of a “dirt” break. It’s been rainy on and off here in Upstate NY and I decided to dust off the road bike, pump up the tires and do some off my best Tour breakaway impressions.

Betsy and her friends have been my training partners as of late

I’ve managed to log quite a few miles and gain some fitness at the same time. All the while the wallet stays put without having to drive to the trailheads and work on the upkeep of the mt. bike. Racing is ready to kick back up though for the month of August, so I may have to pull er back out.

Last night, I even managed to join up for a good ol fashioned group ride shootout. It’s been quite a while since I’ve shown up for one (I did show up in the early spring on my mtb w/slicks). But I felt ready to throwdown on a few sprints and have some fun.

6 of us rolled out of town and enjoyed the usual “Wheelman Route”, about 40 miles with some easy rollers. We mixed things up a bit in the countryside and readied ourselves for the townline sprint. The last few times I was on the ride and remembered, I didn’t have much of a sprint, so I’d either lead out or try an attack from 1-2k away. Always failed. I decided I would give it a go this time around. Jumped when everyone else did, and ran away with Bob, neck and neck we raced for the townline sign. He inched me out by a tire-width. 1st time in a few years, I’ve come that close to him. I have beaten him, maybe 3-4 times over the 8+ years we’ve ridden together, but dang did it feel good and exciting to come that close.

This weekend looks to be great weatherwise, so I’ll probably spend a day in the hills of Naples on the roadie, then grab the singlespeed and have some fun on sunday.
