Weekend Wrap
It’s been a pretty decent week here in Upstate NY. As usual for the weather it was short sleeves and shorts mid-week and windproof tights and jackets on the weekend. At least the sun was shining the whole time.
Saturday was a nice day to get out. My plan was to put in a big day and head south down into Naples and get some big climbs and big hours in. I headed out the door taking it pretty easy, knowing there was a 60 mile tax on just getting to the hills. About 2 hours in my rear derailleur decided to die on me. Probably my own fault as I’ve been running it all winter and not really paying attention. I was ready to swap it out a few weeks ago, but got lazy and wanted ride rather than do the work. The lower pulley ended up completely seizing up on me and refusing to roll. I turned around and headed back to the GBC as I was only about 30 minutes away. A quick install of a new der and chain and I was ready to roll out the door. Problem was I was feeling like crap, and the whole days plan of heading to the hills was tossed out the window. I decided to go head north, put in a few efforts to see if the legs did have anything or were still suffering from the mid-week throw downs. In the end I decided it was best to bag it and stay fresh for Sunday’s group ride
Now that we are riding a bit more, the Hollow-Geneva crew is getting together for some good times more often. We lucked out Sunday, and missed the rain and snow that was forecasted. We didn’t miss the headwinds and the cold pockets of air that seemed to appear spontaneously. Our brightly colored bicycle gang headed out for the hills and headwinds in the the Phelps-Lyons area.
With talk of the Spring Classics and the day’s Paris-Roubaix, the roadies were the weapon of choice. Unfortunately, mine is in need of some upkeep, so I rocked the paragon for the day. I made my attempts at a few sprint signs, but was never actually in the game. I swear there was a sign on every road. I lost count after 7 or 8 signs at how many had been contested and decided I should just try and survive. My legs have been put thru the blender these past few weeks, but hopefully they will come out ready here for Sea Otter this coming weekend with some good rest
Little more challenging than yesterdays ride
Time to get packing for this week. I’m missing the Superfly; like the crazy hot chick you met at the bar, partied all night and fell in love with, I’ve only seen her once since she was shipped off. Let’s hope she remembers who I am
