Back to the dirt

It has been far to long since I actually rode a mountain bike, and even longer since my tires hooked up with singletrack.  After a weekend racing on the east side of the state on skinny tires, I really wanted to break out the Superfly SS.  I put the finishing touches on it Wednesday, and headed out to Yankee Springs to see how next weekends race course is holding up.  Somehow the course went from wet and unthawed to sandy in 2 weeks time, although it is still super fast and a blast to ride.  The Superfly SS handled awesome, and I couldn’t ask for a better bike.  The last 3 years I have thought the same thing when taking my Rigs out, but this time Mr. Fisher has really outdone himself.  The bike feels stiff and responsive like a road bike.  The G2 handling is as intuitive as ever, but the stiffer frame rips the corners and flys uphill.  Today was the real test for it as I joined 2 elite mtb racers and a guy from the road team at Yankee for a test run/slugfest.  We ticked off each of the first two laps of the 11 mile course faster than my race time last year, and I felt like I had more gas in the tank.  Seeing as my legs are almost as white as my sweet new shoes, I figured another lap would do the body good.  Seeing as I am making the jump to elite this year I needed the extra miles for more than just a little color.  I headed out for a 3rd lap and still managed to come within 2 minutes of last years lap time…It’s going to be a great year.
