Holy crap I posted something on the blog!

Lake PuebloSo I’ve been sentenced to do my Psych rotation at the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo, Colorado.  I’ve already spent 2 weeks there, and I’ve still got two left to go.  Although there is close to nothing to do in Pueblo, other than eat really good, authentic mexican food, I did a little research and discovered that they do in fact have mountain bike trails and I set out to find them this week.  After riding some very interesting/not fun trails near the reservoir that seemed more suited to ATVs than mountain bikes, I stopped by Bob’s Bicycles for some guidance.  Thinking back, it should have tipped me off right away that I had been at the wrong trails when there were no cars with bike racks anywhere around and I didn’t see a single other rider on the trails on an 80 degree, sunny day…but who knows in Pueblo.

So the dude at Bob’s sold me a map to the correct trails, which happen to be on the opposite side of the reservoir from where I’d been, and I drove out to have a look.  Now, other than lack of shade, these trails weren’t anything like Fruita, as some people claim.  But, it’s definitely a decently fun system of trails (all very well marked, by the way) with the whole spectrum of easy to super technical.  The longest loop (Voodoo trail) takes a little over 2 hours, but you can add on as many sections as you want to get more miles in.  Another plus for these trails is that they’re maybe only 10 min from downtown so it’s easy to swing by after work for a quick ride.  Needless to say, I am pretty pumped to have found a place to ride in Pueblo.

As it turns out they’re having a race at these trails on Sunday (4/26), so if anyone’s in the area and looking for something to do, check it out!

I also had a lesson on why sunscreen is good after riding there on Friday…white skin burns easily in the desert!!
