Last week I sat on the other side of the registration table at the Ramble Around Prattsburgh as one of the four event organizers collectively known as Pedaling Productions. It was really amazing to be on the other side of a race, organizing and prepping for a race in a much different way than I am used to. I wasn’t concerned with my riding hours, prepping my bike and eating healthy. I was more worried about registration and insurance paperwork, the course being signed properly (and not being vandalized), making the medals, organizing volunteers, making sure race day ran smoothly, and cleaning up after everyone else was happily at home. Don’t get me wrong it was a rockin’ good time, I was definitely bummed that I couldn’t race but I loved watching everyone enjoying themselves on their bikes. More »

I was finally able to get out on the local trails after my week long illness subsided. The dry sections were fast but coming up on this
smashed all of my aspirations to get a good ride in. I had ridden at Crystal Ridge the day prior where the high trails are notoriously hard packed and fast but even those sections were greasy. I decided to ride the river anyway after turning down an offer to ride mountain bikes on the road. Sounded like a lot of fun.. I avoided the river infected sections by climbing out of the corridor and taking side streets to other trail entrances which proved to be enough of a fun day on its own. First WORS race Sunday, race report to follow..

Back home, travel weary, little tired and sore. Still processing the events of the weekend. Happy to have gotten that first race effort in, and also to have gone on a nice pre-ride Saturday am, with Gary Fisher himself.

Sea Otter, well technically it’s day 2 as I was at the venue yesterday, but just to see where our tent is. Weather is beautiful, and I’ve got a nice sunburn on the arms to prove it.

Howdy 29er world.
After an incredibly long winter here in Nebraska the ice has finally melted and the trails have finally dried out. First dirt of the year has been touched.
Over the winter I was lucky enough to get a sweet new pair of the Bontrager Duster Rhythm rims built up. After a couple of good days on dirt I can say the wider rim definitely improves tire performance. I’ll be starting off on the Jones Dry X’s, the fastest 29er tire I’ve ridden.
The pedals will be turned in anger this weekend. Looking forward to racing with new 29er teammates Cam and Liz.

Hello everyone. It is so nice to be a part of this 29er bike party. Thank you very much to our sponsor, Gary Fisher Mountain Bikes, for making this possible! We love your bikes!
They call me Desert Dan. Not merely because I’ve lived here in this desert for most of my life. Well 26 out of 50 years. But because of the hardcore things I enjoy doing physically in these desert-mountains. Especially on bikes. 29er mountain bikes by Gary Fisher.

The culmination of all these years & summers spent living in Borrego Springs, San Diego County, California, is about ready to come to fruition in the manifestation of the Ultimate Cyclists Base Camp. My wife & I have just purchased a 10-acre retreat in Borrego and are set to move into it the first week of April. Lots of great desert trails all around the property, with the mountains just a hop & a skip away. And you all are welcome to visit & share some riding experiences with me… Needless to say the past couple of months have been exceedingly hectic with tasks other than cycling. Namely old home remodeling, etc. Though this work has kept me from my cycling much more than I like, it is work that has to be done. To make a long story short, I’ve managed to hang onto a bit of cycling conditioning by riding the bikes when the time & energy have presented itself. Maybe rest is a good thing for the upcoming long races I’ll be doing…
So please allow me to keep you informed of the latest developments in the Cyclists Retreat now forming in Borrego and all the ways the Fisher 29er mtbs relate to this. And to all my fellow team riders, happy trails ridin swiftly & smoothly on your Fisher 29ers!

Finally hit the dirt this past weekend. Been quite a while. Yesterday, headed over to MPH. Casey, Val, Mark, Suzanne, Jim, c-dog and lizzy along with myself put in a few miles before the trails thawed. Since the paragon has been pulling double duties, a quick wheel swap was required in the am and I was out the door.

A quick hello to everyone else who seems to have jumped into this blog full force, I don’t think there will be any shortage of interesting material to read. Snuck in several long mountain bike rides over the last two weeks, one with ample amounts of snow, about four inches at the top of the mountain and the other with a plethora of rocks. As we drove out to the mountains early Sunday morning we saw a snow line at about 4000′ Few things are better than stealing fresh tracks in the snow on the bikes early Sunday morning. We even overcame a group of hikers just in time to get the final freshies to the top and for the super techy and rocky downhill. Elliot’s Knob (where the picture was taken) is one of the higher points in Virginia but fails to top out at over 5000′ nevertheless it is a titillating two hour climb to the top. If anyone is interested in the photo the complete set of pics from our ride is here at SMT’s photos on google
In other news, spread the word for those of you who have not yet checked it out about the Cliff Bar Two Mile Challenge because 40% of U.S. urban travel is two miles or less Take the 2 Mile Challenge
Go Play on your bike in some rocks, it soothes the soul
