Memorial Day weekend has passed and I’m just starting to recover from all the fun and excitement we had!! It all started on Saturday, with some beautiful weather, we had a great day at the shop, it was great to see so many people anxious to get on their bikes. I was off on Sunday and Monday, so I wanted to get as much in as possible. More »

As lame as it may sound I have been a little too busy to write a post lately. I won’t make any excuses since the only thing any one will believe is that I’ve been riding my bike–and I’m not sure that can really be considered an excuse. More »

Last night kicked off the Farmall Spring XC series, just outside Rochester, NY. RVE Bike is kind enough to host the Spring and Summer series right at their own property.
The course, while only 2 miles in length or so; offers up some great power climbs and the racing is only intense. 7 laps for the Expert/Pro categories and the 7 climbs per lap add up quickly and don’t ever really allow for any recovery. Last night was no exception…

Springtime in Naples, NY area happens to be my favorite time of the year. The trails are just getting into perfect conditions, weather is coming around and the legs are primed and ready to go for any situation.
Wednesday was a great day to skip out of work early and head down to the Hollow with Casey, Jer-Bear and Hanggi to get some Finger Lakes Trail riding in. We rolled out from the Hollow onto some of the roads from the Rambler.

At this point, the plan was to be talking about road trips and bike racing on big wheels. It’s seems though that the common theme here is a long winter and wet spring that just won’t quit. This past weekend we were slated to head south to Topeka where the HMBCS boys were to be putting on a brilliant little event known as the Crocodile Rock. The higher ups at Midwest Cycling were kind enough to give us sprinter van usage and come Sunday morning we were loaded up and making the pick-up rounds. That was until Steve comes out in his Pajamas. “Race is cancelled, it poured last night from nine until one.” Race number 2, canned. April is, literally, a wash.
So what are you to do? A third of an inch of rain had fallen in Omaha too, maybe the trails are dry enough. We held out until late afternoon and sure enough, perfectly tacky trails. Time to fly.
I wouldn’t have thought my first race would be taking place in May. Unfortunately again, the rains seem to be rolling in on Thusday’s and Friday’s. Third times a charm, right?

Back home, travel weary, little tired and sore. Still processing the events of the weekend. Happy to have gotten that first race effort in, and also to have gone on a nice pre-ride Saturday am, with Gary Fisher himself.

Sea Otter, well technically it’s day 2 as I was at the venue yesterday, but just to see where our tent is. Weather is beautiful, and I’ve got a nice sunburn on the arms to prove it.
