Root 66 Series #7–Domnarski Farm!

It’s been too long since my last update. SoI figured what better way to jump back into it than a little race recap from the latest Root 66 Series race in Ware, MA?

Although I have done a fair share of the New England mountain bike races, I had never raced at Domnarski until this past weekend. It can be a bit of a gamble driving a few hours to a venue that you’ve never raced before, but it can also make it that much more fun. Fortunately the course and organization turned out superb, as is almost always the case with the Root 66 events. Although the start was the definition of ‘bottleneck’, the course was truly a New England course offering much fun, difficult singletrack as well as a good helping of double track.

It was refreshing to see a pretty good size crowd at the start of the Cat 1 Open race, including fellow Crew’er John Foley. Now I haven’t gotten the chance to race my Superfly yet as much as many other 29er enthusiasts, so I’m still finding it’s luxuries quite nice. That being said, I really noticed the solid bite the bike kept on the more technical ascents!

The course definitely spread out the field throughout the race and I ended up rolling in 3rd thanks to some great bottle feeding courtesy of my dad. Unfortunately, Foley flatted but he still ended up finishing after finding a tube. Too bad since he was ripppin it up until then!

Pat’s Peak Mountain Bike Festival in Henniker, New Hampshire next weekend. Come on out if you are in the area, it should be a fun event!
