It’s one of those moments, when the current state of affairs don’t seem to matter. Damn, it’s hot, I’m tired, how much sleep do I really need? HOW MUCH do I need to eat an hour? SERIOUSLY??? Is everyone taken care of? tires pumped, are my handlebars loose? I thought you said there was less climbing, or it was easier than the last ride??? Do ALL coaches go to the same school for liars….blah, blah blah! Yet, I wouldn’t want it any other way.

coaching duties..most importantly..having fun!
My Spring duties include training (other people), training and eventually racing. WIth that being said, 99% of TNT is having fun! Showing noobs the ins-outs of riding a bike, raising funds for a cause greater than ourselves and being a “lead” coach, yet having the responsibility to “sweep” 100+/- Team In Training riders for the 100 mile event.

11th hour on the bike and almost home...
Priceless moment…finishing a century with: 1. a cancer survivor 2. a person with the lofty goal of finishing a 100 miles (as fast as possible) after only 18 weeks of training and not riding a bike for ~3 years!

The TEAM
2 Cancer Survivors, Alumni and 1st-timers…made for an eventful Spring!
If 11+ hours wasn’t enough, it was only the 2nd of my 3 day ride extravaganza. The previous day, I rode with Niner “Fuzzy” Mylne for about 2 miles up a mountain…until he tore my legs off and I told him goodbye. I thought it was pretty cool as we talked (er..I gasped!) about 29ers and our racing-NUE races and future events.
The last day, after a quick-30min tire change-from the xr1’s to the xdx’s, (knowing there was mud in the hills surrounding Pisgah)-I was blasting down the highway 8 miles to the trailhead, all alone on a Monday! Seriously, I can’t believe how fast and easy it was, using only my floor pump! After rollercoastering the N/S Mills mountainside, I ended up on the Blue Ridge Parkway to descend into the signs namesake.

HiFi delight
Ahhhh, volunteer weekends…160 miles total, 45 by HiFi and it was good.
And you thought it was some lame, road only content…shame on you! : )

Nice post Brent! I bet Team In Training is a really amazing thing to be a part of. Please call me if you will be riding Pisgah on a Monday by yourself. I have Monday’s off.
