I'm a 41 year old, married, father of 2 young boys, endurance racing Type 1 diabetic living in Durham, NC. I work for Duke University, although I really pull for the Tarheels. I have been a Type 1 diabetic for almost 33 years, and founded the Type1Rider organization in May of 2005. This organization is dedicated to both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetic athletes, particularly those who ride and race bicycles. The primary goals of Type1Rider are outreach and advocacy. These strategic goals are supported and voiced by Type1Rider's primary mission: *Awareness-Education-Support-Encouragement* I use racing and cycling event participation as a vehicle to convey information and data about daily management, training, riding, techniques, and technologies available in order to improve their health. Exercise and self care is promoted as one of the keys to living a long healthy life with diabetes. I have always loved anything with 2 wheels, and started racing BMX 35 years ago. I began mountain biking back in college nearly 20 years ago, and have been obsessed with the sport ever since. Started rocking the 29" wheels 3 years ago, and have never looked back. A HUGE thank you to Travis, Travis, and the 29er Crew for allowing me to raise awareness of diabetes, and to help spread the word about my belief in the BIG WHEELS and G2 geometry!!
