Muddy Mountwood
Started out to be such a nice week, sunny skies and temps in the 70s. Until race day came along……
I said I wouldn’t do it again, but sources told me that the trail was dry, so the only worry was the 80% chance of a light rain on race day. I thought to myself “no matter what, it has to be better than last year”. We took off in the rain at 44 degrees. There was a much larger turnout for the pro/expert women’s class than in past years, with 10.
I pulled the whole shot off the start, primarily just for fun. I knew it wouldn’t last with Betsy Shogren in the field. She finished 11th in the pro women’s class at Nationals last year, what a result. Sure enough she passed me after about 2 miles, I was able to keep her in sight for the next 1/2 of the race, then she was gone. I finished in 2nd about 3 minutes behind Shogren. I’ll take that.

Time to upgrade! :0) Nice work.
