Winter Altered

By Tim | 29/01/09 | 4:36 PM

Because snow isn’t the best option always for a bike, it’s been two skis instead of two wheels. Fresh dirt last week in the low lands, 5000 feet from here. Two hours on the skis equals about 3 hours on the bike. At least that’s how it feels today. Definitely an alternative to cycling. Skating=high end, classic=endurance.

Sunshine and Superflyin’

As Opperman noted in the post below, the weather here in Boulder was gorgeous this past week. With the weather comes a chance to work on the winter tan and get in a boatload of riding.

This past weekend I was able to put in a nice century on the road bike with fellow mt. biker Kat Statman, we had an awesome day and headed up to Estes Park. There some nice videos up on the post, so check em out!

The rest of the week was spent in the midst of the usual training blocks, hurling myself up and over Lee Hill for some intervals and then again the next day only, this time back up over LeftHand Canyon for some tempo.

Yesterday though, was the grandaddy of the week. I was craving some singletrack desperately. Itchin’ and twitchin’ to ride on the dirt. Trails were in perfect condition, so I headed over the Heil Ranch and then for the first time over to Hall Ranch. Both are super technical in there own way. Heil is fully loaded with rocks everywhere, while Hall is like riding slickrock. For my first time there, I had a blast picking lines and making my way up.

I have the video of the Picture Rock Descent and Hall Ranch over on my blog (the video below is much better!)

60^ in January? Yes, this is Colorado!

Had to get out and do some trail riding as the snow has mostly melted off the trails down low here in Boulder County.  A crew of us got out and played showing out pasty white skin in our short sleeve jerseys.

Things are getting going with the Subaru-GF team.  I have been busy with orders- frames, parts, wheels, tires etc.  I can’t wait to build the new team bikes.  The will look so hot!  All I will say is no more pink for the ladies.  The whole pink thing is played out- the Fisher ladies will set the new fashion trend.  The guys bikes will be super hot too.  I think these will be the hottest looking team bikes since I have been a part of the team.  I can’t wait to show them off.

We have a super busy schedule ahead of us.  We will be traveling all over the US, Canada, Europe, Africa, Australia and Chile.  Should be fun and exciting

Later on-

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009!

By Cain Dan | 19/01/09 | 8:32 PM

Hope ya’ll have a great new year. And a great way to get through this coming year is by riding your Gary Fisher 29er mtb, as much as possible. In fact, I believe that the more you ride your bike, the better off you must be doing in life. Cuz if you’re care free enough to do nothing more than ride your bike, you gotta be doin well in most facets of living…

Four years into these 29er mtbs by Fisher Bikes. Love ‘em more than any bike I’ve ever owned.  And this is from a quarter century experience of ridin & racin mtbs…

My fleet of five of these bikes stand safely & comfortably in my bike den. All geared up with their different width Bontrager 29er tires. Each particular bike is equipped with a specific width tire for specific riding applications. I have an all-around ‘desert bike’, in tomato red, w/Bontrager XR 29×2.25/2.2 tires. A skinny-tired 29er, in silver, w/29×1.8″ wide XR tires for ridin the smoother dirt roads & big mountain paved grade, ‘Montezuma Grade.’ Another bike, in midnight blue, equipped with Bontrager 29×2.2″ ‘ACX’ tires that is my night-ridin specific bike. Another bike, a Fisher ‘Rig’ 29er one-speed, in black, used for the mountain single-track ridin, day & night. And my fifth bike, in lip-stick red, equipped with ACX 29×2.2 ‘ACX’ tires, meant for long-rides & races.

All these bikes are equipped with the same fork. This is the Bontrager ‘Switchblade’, with carbon-fiber legs. A rigid fork. Why rigid? Because this is how I ride my bikes. I am a rigid rider. In case you’re wondering, the forks do work on the new G2 frame geometry. So if you’re lookin to free up your bike by a couple of pounds in lighter weight, and do away with maintenance hassles of suspension technology (yuchh!), I would suggest you try these forks. You just might get hooked to mechanical riding, as opposed to mechanized riding.  Plus, you can go around saying, “REBELS RIDE RIGIDClimbing to Font’s Point/summit of Borrego Badlands“, whenever you start feelin rebellious…

Festive Riding

Most people treat Christmas as a time to rest, relax and pig-out. This year for me has been the opposite. Sure winter night riding is fun - getting out and clocking some miles when everyone around is sat in front of the TV, but a chance to ride in daylight, during the week, in the middle of winter couldn’t be wasted… (more…)

So Long 2008

By Dave Holmes | 05/01/09 | 10:35 AM

Looking back, 2008 was a pretty good year to be on the bike. I started January off by getting a Soho S to commute around on and run errands. It turned into one of my favorite bikes, and ended the year with nearly 2000 miles of commuting and greenway riding on it. If you don’t have a cheaper bike to just commute around on, get one! You will not regret it! Road riding was good as well, with tons of miles, and lots of new routes explored around Knoxville.
