Who wants to go to Moab?

24 Hour racing doesn’t get any bigger than the 24 Hours of Moab, and the great folks at Infinit Nutrition are hooking up one lucky rider with a free entry and a year’s supply of customized nutrition products.

For those of you who haven’t heard, Infinit nutrition is THE source for customized nutrition sports drinks.  Everyone’s body and nutrition needs are different, and the solution is not just dumping more powder in a drink if you weigh more.  Infinit allows you to customize the amount of calories and carbohydrates so you can get the nutrition you need rather you want something fast burning for 2 hours or a mix that will keep you going for 24 hours.  Electrolytes are also customizeable so you can get exactly what you need no matter how much you sweat (or don’t.)  On top of that you’re able to set protein, caffeine, and amino acid levels as well.

And it tastes great…  I was a hammer guy (perpeteum/sustained energy) for years, and it took only one bottle of infinit for me to make the leap.  Since the amount of flavor is adjustable, if you want a weaker flavor, you don’t have to sacrifice the calories by watering it down. The stuff really is incredible.  Anything that lets you race for 12 hours without eating a single gel or bar and not having to juggle electrolyte pills definitely wins in my book.

So if you’re tired of forcing down chalky mixes and juggling e-caps and sports legs, give infinit a look.  And to register for the free entry to moab, year’s supply of infinit, and swag pack, click here.

Fort Rock Revenge EFTA # 8

On my pc the other day checking out results and realized that I haven’t updated in over a month! Wow, guess racing/riding/recovery has run my life a bit this season.

After Mt Snow I did not do much for two full weeks, let that course get to me for no good reason at all. Got over it and started riding again in order to prep for the Fort Rock Revenge EFTA event in NH on 8/3/08.

Backstage Love

After getting home from a week long vacation in Crested Butte (more on that later) we headed off for the annual pilgrimage to Wisco.  2 days of riding bikes would not disappoint.  As Stork mentioned below, one of the big surprises were the intro of GF road bikes.  They all look sweet and I can’t wait to throw a leg over one.

Triton/Presidio/ARC Pro

Got to meet T-Ott, Stork and few other crew mates.  Overall the show was a big success.  The new GF Roscoe had to be my favorite little wheel bike.  The new suspension design will turn some heads.  I’m excited about the new Mamba 29er too.  A sub $1000 29er for the masses.

Stop #7 on the OMBC calendar was at Alum Creek State Park near Delaware Ohio.

This marked my first race as a pro rider since my upgrade was approved at the end of July.

Tranquility tire Tantrum, Omaha, NE

Last weekend I headed up to Omaha Ne to attempt to get back into the swing of things on the MTB. Seems like MTB racing kind of stops in July/ August in this part of the Midwest. When I arrived at the venue I was amazed to see so many 29′ers rolling around. I saw a bunch of Paragons under guys and gals that had just finished the Sport races and a few more Paragon’s plus a few Superfly’s warming up for the Expert race. After getting getting my buddies little guy set up on his Fisher for the kids race we pulled our bikes out to get ready to race. The course was in a urban/Suburban park where the local trail crew made some great trails out of absolutely nothing. The race itself did not play out the way I had hoped. After starting well and holding down 2nd place I began to fade and ended up 4th. Really not sure what happened but I’ve got 4 weeks to figure it out before the next MTB race.  In any case it was a good day to return to the town where I grew up and ride some new trails.

New look, Same ride.

I just swaped out forks on my paragon. I replaced the stock Fox F80 RL 29 with the 2008 Rock Shox Reba Team 29 after finding out that i had been riding the entire season on a shox that had a factory error. It was lossing air pressure at an alarming rate. I would pump it up on monday and by saturday the pressure was gone. The good guys at Johnny Sprockets called fox to see how long a replacement would take and after finding it would take 3 weeks; this option was not a possiblity. So instead they called over to Rock Shox and with in two days the Reba was installed and ready ride. The paragon looked a little funny at first with a all black fork at first but after replacing the white saddel with the Race xXx light all black one the funny look was gone. One of my friends Nora actually said now it looks more sophisticated.

bThe New Look

I headed out to palos for a test ride and to hit some much need single track that has been missed. All in all the Reba handels about the same as its predisesor with the exception that it is a little stiffer.

One of my favorite races is comming up in a couple of weeks- The Palos Meltdown. This is a great race not only because of its location just about a 30 minute drive outside the windy city but theres nothing racing and battling it out on the home turff.

Suicide Six

This past Saturday was the New York State Endurance Racing Series (NYSERS) Finale. Held at Harriet Hollister-Spencer Park near Honeoye Lake. Having raced here and done well over the past several years, I was surprised to find out a few weeks ago that the course would be completely different. 2 new trails were added and the entire course would be run backwards sans “the rattler”. The rattler is an 800 ft brutally technical descent, on par with some of the best I’ve ever ridden (makes Mount Snow’s descent seem paved). With the rattler in poor shape, it was a wise call and after pre-riding the course it began to grow on me.

My training and preparation had been good and I was ready for a showdown. New to this year’s event was a nice little trophy for the fastest first lap overall (team or solo riders).

I wasn’t sure if I was going to take a chance at the trophy or ride my pace and keep consistent and steady. Lining up, the promoter was laying down the smack talk, trying to egg on a few of us. Goading us into going after the trophy….

New route in Pisgah

I made a new discovery on an old trail this week.  For any readers who live close to Pisgah, try climbing Big Creek trail and then descending Laural Mountain.  Big Creek has never been a great downhill.  The top section drops 1800 all at once.  The gradient, although not super steep, is quite consistent, with no level areas to let off the brakes.  The lower 2 miles are creek side with numerous water crossings.  I don’t know what took me so long to try climbing this thing.  I’m almost sure that nobody climbs this trail.  It’s nearly all rideable, with nothing absurdly difficult.  It’s an extremely doable challenge complete with tour style switchbacks and subtle ecosystem variations as you climb.  I feel alright about sharing this secret.  Try it if you can.
