bike on podium water

By Cain Dan | | 10:13 AM

I’ve been riding mtbs for 24 years and I’ve owned a lot of bikes. With all sincerity I have to say that my favorite all-time bike is my Fisher 29er rigid. And if the old adage is true: “if it feels good do it,” and it certainly is true when it comes to bikes, then this bike of mine certainly deserves to be up on a special podium. This bike is customized for certain reasons, and I’ll get to these reasons as this blog continues… Ride on ya’ll your own happy trails…

24 hour racing

By Dan Norton | | 8:41 AM

Another W in the 29er column as the past weekend 24 hour race in Spokane, Wa turned into a good event, a fast pace and lots of looks at the Superfly. The course in Spokane is a good fast 14 mile loop and has a nice mixture of single track and gravel roads. 24 hour events are very cool, as they have much less of the posturing and intensity of a shorter 1 day race. Lots of ordinary folks.

I am promoting a good race in Wash the 26,27 of July. Anyone out there interested in a tough, single track, up and down race thru the trees –come on out. The local Fisher rep will be here and displaying the product. check out roslyncyclery.com

Virginia riding is really as good as it gets

By Kyle Lawrence | 29/05/08 | 10:37 PM

Dowells overlook

Please don’t tell too many people and try to not let the word get out too much but what we have here in Virginia is really some of the best mountain biking in the world. There are some rides that really help you to differentiate between “good” rides and EPIC back country excursions. Such excursions are not possible or at least not as spectacular unless the conditions are present. They make you appreciate the extraordinary trails that are less than an hour out my door. (more…)

The spring classics have come and gone. One grand tour down.

giro peloton

Vive Il Giro! The call was gingerly echoed throughout my past weekend as the rolling peloton of thirty some mountain bikers meandered through the Virginian Blue Ridge Mountains. Bells rang as spectators and fans alike lined the rural roads to cheer along the riders as the Giro passed through the small hamlets nestled at the foot of the Blue Ridge. Riders the world over traveled far and wide for one of the best and most explosive Giro’s to date. (more…)

philly’s finest.

Being an election year I thought I’d travel to Philadelphia. The Liberty Bell, Obama city  and a country founded by a bunch of white guys whose kids today are juxtaposed as they listen to what seems like awful new country and bad rap today or worse yet; they watch American Idol and play video games with little bike riding.  I mean say something with your music or just tell a story like Immortal Technique or Clutch. Imagine if your bike tires could talk or sing, the stories and music would fill your MP3 player or the shelves in your library even if you aren’t an avid cyclist. They have been taking you places since five years old and many tires have been retired (worn out) and some have gone flat. I mean how sweet is it to get on your bike and go…wherever and whenever you want. That freedom is a way of life so the stories have to be as animated as the journey. When I am 90 I will go into my local shop and look for a Fisher Tricycle- that is how much fun I have on my Fisher.  I hopped a plane for Philadelphia to find more such animation. It is always painful sucking down the half filled Nalgene (made in USA) out of spite of the TSA guards at the airport who want my chemical Bisphenol-A (BPA) (more…)

Burn 24 Hour

Burn 24

This past weekend I headed east to North Carolina for the Burn 24 Hour Challenge.  This is my first 24 hour race on the year, and I had been looking forward to it for weeks.  Although the race didn’t turn it quite like I had hoped, the positives of the race definitely outweighed the negatives and it ended up being a great weekend.

Since it would be a shame to break tradition, I was awoken in my tent on Friday night by the sound of rain. Luckily the rain was light, and the trails were bone dry for the entire race. There wasn’t a single puddle of water or drop of mud at all. I had plenty of time to kill before the noon start, so I wandered around and chatted for a bit. I ended up pitting in the same place as last year. I was pitting with Florida’s Chris Johns and Chris Janiszewski, and we were right next to Mark Hendershot and the pair of Daves from up north. It was kind of funny that we were all back and in the exact same spot as last year. (more…)

Support Crew

By Cain Dan | | 10:35 AM

It really helps to have good support when it comes to bikes. My main support of course is my wife Jody. She sees to it that we have first-class accommodations. Namely this ranch. She also pays for most of my bike gear. What more can a rider ask for? It also helps to have supportive friends. Especially ones that can ride well and love bikes, as I do tooSupport Crew.  Of course the gear & gear supplier are extremely important as well. That is why I have chosen Gary Fisher Bikes and their partners in biking equipment, Trek and Bontrager Bicycle Components. It just so happens that they have chosen me to use their gear, because I know quality when I see it. Thank you very much to all of you!
