Introducing the official 2008 29er Crew Coffee Mug

Desert Dan’s Training Camp

Hello everyone. It is so nice to be a part of this 29er bike party. Thank you very much to our sponsor, Gary Fisher Mountain Bikes, for making this possible! We love your bikes!

They call me Desert Dan. Not merely because I’ve lived here in this desert for most of my life. Well 26 out of 50 years. But because of the hardcore things I enjoy doing physically in these desert-mountains. Especially on bikes. 29er mountain bikes by Gary Fisher.

Desert Riding

The culmination of all these years & summers spent living in Borrego Springs, San Diego County, California, is about ready to come to fruition in the manifestation of the Ultimate Cyclists Base Camp.  My wife & I have just purchased a 10-acre retreat in Borrego and are set to move into it the first week of April. Lots of great desert trails all around the property, with the mountains just a hop & a skip away. And you all are welcome to visit & share some riding experiences with me… Needless to say the past couple of months have been exceedingly hectic with tasks other than cycling. Namely old home remodeling, etc. Though this work has kept me from my cycling much more than I like, it is work that has to be done. To make a long story short, I’ve managed to hang onto a bit of cycling conditioning by riding the bikes when the time & energy have presented itself. Maybe rest is a good thing for the upcoming long races I’ll be doing…

So please allow me to keep you informed of the latest developments in the Cyclists Retreat now forming in Borrego and all the ways the Fisher 29er mtbs relate to this.  And to all my fellow team riders, happy trails ridin swiftly & smoothly on your Fisher 29ers!

Warm(er) and windy…It’s all relative

Work has been incredibly boring these past few days. When you are a software tester; waiting around for the developer to deliver you an application can take some time. I’ve filled my days by continually hitting refresh on various blog websites and trying not to drool on my keyboard while I sleep.

I do ask for work, believe me I’d rather be doing something. Yesterday managed to be a nice day, so I decided to leave a little bit early and head out for a ride in the wind and warmer temps.

Weekend Update….

This last weekend was a fantastic one for riding. I managed to get out Sat before work for an hour and a half but Sunday was the biggie. 132 km 4:45 and lots of climbing with a low gear of 42X25… ouch. I do most of my training on a road bike. I had planned on a big ride but not as big as it turned out to be and got my $$ worth. I rode with Brad and Marc and we rode strong (3 man pace-line) pretty much the whole way.

The ride started at the bridge and took the usual route up to Fairfax over White’s and More »

Lucky enough

After changing around my Easter plans I created enough free time to murder some trails at Hillman State Park. Sun Shining over a crisp 22 degree sunday morning and crackedweb.jpgonly the sighting of 3 other riders just going out as I finished up. How lucky I felt to have family that understands my passion for cycling. Rolling onward…..until I cracked.

Finally on the trails

Finally hit the dirt this past weekend. Been quite a while. Yesterday, headed over to MPH. Casey, Val, Mark, Suzanne, Jim, c-dog and lizzy along with myself put in a few miles before the trails thawed. Since the paragon has been pulling double duties, a quick wheel swap was required in the am and I was out the door.

Toule WerXe, Marquette, MI.

TW is a hard thing to put into words, you may hear mention to it throughout my post, so i figured i better put a face to the name.

If planet bike says ride long and prosper, Toule WerXe says ride slow and throw rocks.

Pretty in pink

I was actually able to get out and ride the HiFi twice this weekend. It was my first time out on my new brakes. More »

A Fresh 10…

new-derby.JPG

10″ of snow = Driveway Derby!  What else are you gonna do with a fresh 10″ of snow at the end of March?  The second best thing about the Derby (after the riding of course) was my six year old explaining, “Dad can’t shovel the driveway, that’ll wreck the course.”  Ahh…. Precious.  He even convinced the neighbors not to shovel theirs…  I did see my neighbor Jason give a bit of a fist pump cause he was stoked to be heading back inside for more coffee.

Singletrack in Pisgah

The trails are spectacular after a series of spring storms that seems to have broken the worst drought in recent memory.  The rains have percolated through, leaving the surface smooth and strong, the moisture strengthening the roots and the bonds of the soil.  I’ve been training a fare amount with my sister Willow, prepping her for the brutal international stage.  A few more rides like Saturday’s ought to do the trick.
