The only thing I can count on at this time of the year is the fact that I’ll get a good cold virus before the weather changes. Never the less since our mtb race was canceled I made my debut for the season at a road race being promoted by none other than my local shop sponsor. (T.O.P.) With mild temps and a fairly sunny day the race saw a large number of participants which makes for a fast day. In these parts of the woods there is always the chance to see friends and I’m glad to call this guy one of mine. Now remind me why I went……
A big weekend of racing for sure…
Saturday…I hit the Ronde Crit riding in the Masters 1/2/3 and it was a suffer-fest. Super windy and a very high pace had me gasping for air. I hadn’t done my normal “day before opener” opting for extra rest leading into the weekend and even with a solid 45 min warm up day of, I was blown out the back 1/2 way into the race. This was not how I wanted to have it go down for my first crit of the season. On the other hand it seemed a perfect tune-up for the mtb race the next day and besides, more than half of the field got blown out as well– not a slow race at all.
Sunday–I drove down to Monterey with plenty of time to dilly-dally around More »
With our snowpack being 150% of normal dirt is hard to come by if it isn’t mixed with Mag Chloride and Slush. Getting time on the bike is simple; go out and suffer up the road climbs on the singlespeed with knobbies. Hard is good. 2 hours is all you need to feel like you trained on a day when they canceled your first race.
I was out there with fellow 29er crew members Mark and Suzanne and a few other’s (including the Champion of North Huron, for yesterday’s epic undertaking down the Keuka Lakefront.

Sunday was a beautiful day for an epic adventure, 40 degrees and sunny with a south wind sounds like a ride around Keuka Lake to me. More »
For half of my ride I sat on the back trying to stay on, chasing rabbits for about 35miles. More »
Busy weekend in Marquette, sport show, bike shop, ski competitions, visiting friends, wheelies…
So today was the first scheduled trail maintenance day over at one of south Jersey’s most popular riding spots, Allaire State Park. Allaire seems to be in a weather system all it’s own, and has been a great retreat from the wet and muddy parks up here in north Jersey where I live. With tons of awesome training miles put in there this winter, I decided to head down to give the trails some love back.
I pulled out the Single Speed on Friday after sleeping in until 9. My plan was to get about 26 miles in at Lake Norman. Of course, I ran out of time for 26 miles, but did manage to get a solid 18 in. The weather was finally warm…in the 60’s. It was a perfect morning for a ride. The one thing I noticed while riding was the sweat running down my face. Finally, I was able to work up a good sweat this year - and I only had to wait until the end of March. I would have ridden longer, but had to leave to get to my lacrosse game.Of course, the weather didn’t hold and I bailed on riding this morning and will be doing some chores tomorrow morning instead of riding. But the weather looks like it’ll finally stay warm for the next week or so. Like I should be complaining living in NC. Time to get ready for my first Time Trial of the year on the 9th.
